About the Opportunity
The Alameda County Department of Child Support Services (ACCSS) is offering an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and families as a Child Support Specialist (Temporary Appointment).
Child Support Specialists help parents work together to ensure their children receive the financial and medical support they need to thrive. In this role, you’ll learn how to manage child support cases from start to finish—interviewing parents, gathering information, calculating support amounts, and ensuring court orders are followed.
This is a temporary appointment with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position through the civil service hiring process.

What You’ll Do (After Training)
- Interview parents and participate in court-related conferences to discuss support orders.
- Locate parents and gather information about income, employment, and assets.
- Calculate child support payments using state guidelines.
- Prepare legal documents to establish and enforce support orders.
- Work with parents to ensure compliance with monetary and medical support obligations.
- Deliver excellent service to families, partners, and colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications
To qualify, you must meet one of the following criteria:
Path A
- Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., or Certificate of Proficiency from the CA Board of Education.
- Experience:Two years of full-time experience providing direct customer service that involved interviewing, exchanging detailed information, and interpreting or applying policies or regulations.
- Note: Only 18 months of experience is required if you have an Associate’s degree in sociology, public administration, liberal arts, or a closely related field.
Path B
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in sociology, public administration, liberal arts, or a closely related field.
