Tableau and California Child Support

This workshop provides an in-depth look at the role of Tableau in the California child support system, from its introduction to its current applications in supporting the Department of Child Support Services (DCSS). Participants will explore the collaboration between CA DCSS and Local Child Support Agencies (LCSAs) in leveraging Tableau to enhance program effectiveness. The session will also highlight key dashboards, their functionalities, and best practices for utilizing them. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have a stronger understanding of Tableau’s impact on DCSS and how to apply its insights effectively.

Paul Brizzi - Executive Division, RADAR

California Department of Child Support Services 


Paul is a Data Analyst at the California Department of Child Support Services (DCSS), with over a decade of experience in data analytics and performance evaluation. Since joining DCSS in 2014, he has contributed to various data-driven initiatives, beginning with the Data Performance Analysis Branch in the Data Analytics Unit.

Currently, he is a member of the Research and Data Analytics Unit (RADAR), where he has been involved since its inception. As an early adopter of Tableau within DCSS, he works in developing data visualizations and dashboards that support program operations and decision-making. his expertise lies in fulfilling data requests, developing dashboards, and leveraging analytics to drive program insights and improvements.


Dave Gravender - Business Systems Analyst

San Luis Obispo County DCSS


Dave Gravender is a Business Systems Analyst currently working for San Luis Obispo Child Support Services. With over 30 years of IT experience in the field of data analysis and management, he has become an expert in leveraging data to drive decision-making and improve business operations. At San Luis Obispo Child Support Services, Dave specializes in using Tableau, a popular data visualization tool, to create intuitive and informative visualizations that help stakeholders make informed decisions. He is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from a variety of sources, including financial records, customer feedback, and operational metrics. By synthesizing this information into clear and concise dashboards, he helps his colleagues understand key trends and identify areas for improvement. Overall, Dave is a highly accomplished and respected professional who has made significant contributions to his field. Dave earned his MBA from the University of Indianapolis and his BBA from Eastern Michigan University.



Mechelle Morgan - Social Services Supervisor
